H. Stenopterus X H. Guatemalensis. Created by Edgar Valdivia a member of the California Rare Fruit Grower organization, this variety is an improvement of Asunta 2 pollinated with Condor again. The flower is Pink and is self-sterile, cross pollination is required and flowers might be needed to be opened manually. The fruit is larger than Asunta 2, its outer skin is peach, with Lime colored fins and the flesh Pink to Magenta it gets darker with age. The flesh is firm with floral complex and brix reported at 20.

Asunta 5 Paco created by Edgar Valdivia a member of the California Rare Fruit Grower organization, this variety is an improvement of Asunta 4 pollinated with Tricia.Essentially Hybridizing a Selenicereus Guatemalensis with Selenicereus Stenopterus. The flower is Pink and is self-sterile, cross pollination is required. The fruit is larger than Asunta 4 and average 1 to 2 Lbs.its outer skin is maroon, with maroon colored fins and the flesh is magenta/purple.The flesh is sweet with a tart end and has a cherry/berry, very refreshing flavor. Brix reported at 16-18.

Bruni Dragon Fruit is a hybrid variety from Selenicereus Stenopterus and Selenicereus Undatus. It is one of three hybrid clones created by German hybridizer Eckhard Meier. The other two siblings are Connie Mayer and Kathie Van Arum. The growth is very tender and three-sided, which is typical of Hylocereus. The tenderness comes from the mother plant, Hylocereus stenopterus. Spines are often tiny single thorns that are similar to their sister clone Connie Mayer. The flower of Bruni is a medium-sized bloom with inner petals being purple shading to light pink edges and white tips. Before flowering, the flower bud is equally impressive. The flower opens at dusk and closes at sunrise. When compared to other varieties, this is much earlier. One downside to Bruni is it is self-sterile but will set fruit with pollen from different varieties that do not contain the stenopterus gene. Fruits are small and plentiful, often weighing .25 to .75 pounds. The green skin, when ripe, has a transparent pink color with lemon-lime green fins and white flesh. The longer the fruit is on the vine, the sweeter it is. Takes 45 days compared to 30 days for other Selenicereus species. Testing results in 2016 had a Brix rating as high as 21.3. The flavor profile was a rosy floral and very yummy.

Cebra Dragon Fruit variety comes from the genus Selenicereus and the species Polyrhizus. This variety is a Nicaraguan Dragon Fruit with dark red flesh and red skin. It is one of five know varieties to be grown commercially in Nicaragua. The fruit is delicious, having both flavor and sweetness. With an average weight of 1 pound and average brix of 18, however, we found more significant to have readings in the 20s. Like most red flesh varieties, the fruit is also very high in antioxidants. This fruit is considered to be one of the better tasting varieties at the Pitaya Festival held in Southern California. Growth is three-sided with small thorns that are very typical looking of Selenicereus Guatemalensis. Single cuttings have reached over six feet growing just one summer. The 2S is a cross between Rixford a purple-fleshed variety, and Niezel, a white-fleshed variety. This variety suppose be self-fertile. However, some claim it is sterile. and needs to be hand-pollinated with another variety.This variety is a fast grower. This variety produces a large purple-fleshed fruit with a Very juicy sweet cherry or grape-like flavor. Average weight 1 – 1.5 pounds. Average brix 18-19.

Selenicereus Costaricensis Dragon Fruit is also known as the Costa Rican pitaya. This is a cactus species native to Central America and northwestern South America. This plant is known for having some of the largest stems made by any Dragon Fruit variety. They are extra large, three-sided growth with medium size spines. The flower buds emerge with red outline on the edges of the bud. The night blooming flowers are huge 15-inches and need assistance to set fruit as this variety is not self-pollinating. Because of this, it lacks a 5 rating in fruit production. When the fruit is produced, they are about .75 to 1 pounds with a red flesh. This flesh has a firm texture with a tangy kiwi type flavor. The sweetness is also present with an average brix score of 18. In 2017 our fall fruit stayed on the vine around 10 days longer than normal. This allowed the fruit to mature without rupturing from the summer heat. Because of this, the brix rating was a whopping 24. Every year the fruit has an attractive external appearance. The fruit is a perfect round shape with red skin fading to green fins that protrude away and curl down from the fruit. Cotton Candy Dragon Fruit was Created by Don Burnett crossing Connie Mayer x Guatemala-1 from Edgar Valdivia.Beautiful white flower with some unique yellow stripes in the middle of some petals. The Flesh of the fruit is a pleasant crisp texture with a very nice pink color. It would never set fruit when pollenated with Epiphyllum pollen. Cotton Candy fruit produced is lite pink inside edible and mildly sweet.

Country Roads Dragon Fruit variety comes from the genus Selenicereus and the species Costaricensisis. Growing this variety side by side next to S. Costaricensisis tells us they are very closely related, and many aspects are the same. Growth of Country Roads is extra large, three-sided with medium size spines along the rib. The growth is easily three times the size of typical Selenicereus species. The flower buds emerge with a red outline on the edges of the bud. The night-blooming flowers are enormous at 15 inches and need assistance to set fruit as this variety is not self-pollinating. When the fruit is produced, they are about a pound with red flesh. Delight Dragon Fruit is a hybrid variety that comes from Selenicereus Undatus and Selenicereus guatemalensis. It is a self-pollinating and very fertile variety that will set fruit on its own. Recommend hand pollination to ensure fruit or even greater sized fruit. This variety is a seedling selection made by the California Rare Fruit Growers. Internet research has stated that the 3-S seedling created by Paul Thomson and Delight are to be the same. It is one of the several crosses from the Niezel, a white flesh variety and Rixford, a purple flesh variety. Spicy Exotics collected this variety from a tropical nursery in Louisiana.Delights fruit is medium-sized fruit that typically weighs 1 pound. The flesh has a unique pink hue that has a delightful flavor, and this is where it gets its name. Flowers are enormous nocturnal blooms over 14 inches across and bloom all summer. Stems are green three-sided with small spines along the rib.

Edgars Baby Dragon Fruit is a hybrid variety that comes from Selenicereus Stenopterus and Selenicereus Guatemalensis. This variety also has the species undatus in its gene. Edgar’s Baby is a seedling from the Asunta series from an Asunta 1,2,3, or 4 and Condor variety. The results are a white flower and green skin purple-fleshed fruit.
