Selenicereus Guatemalensis and Selenicereus Undatus. Also known as 9S, this is a cross between Rixford a purple-fleshed variety and Niezel, a white-fleshed variety created by Paul Thomson.

Flowers are self-sterile and need to be cross pollinating. Growers reporting that it takes from bud to flower 23 days and flower to ripe fruit 43 days. The unique feature of the Dark Star dragon fruit flower is its bifid stigma lobes, meaning the stigma lobes are split at the ends. This characteristic is distinct from its seedling relatives. The flowers themselves are large, fragrant, and bloom at night, typically lasting only one night.
